The European Union Backs Oivi With €2.5 Million

Oivi has been awarded a grant of 2,5 million EUR by the EU’s prestigious EIC Accelerator program. The funding will aid Oivi in developing Falcon, a point-of-care camera to detect preventable and vision threatening eye diseases. The project goals are to capture high quality resolution images of the human retina, and facilitate screening and detection of diabetic retinopathy through automated AI diagnostics.

Oivi's mission is to make eye care affordable and accessible, focusing on preventing blindness through a high-quality, automated retinal photography camera. The Falcon targets diabetic retinopathy (DR), a major cause of blindness, affecting over 100 million people globally. Early detection and treatment can significantly reduce vision impairment risks. The grant will help Oivi take a significant leap in solving some of society’s unmet healthcare needs.

Oivi's innovative camera is automated, user-friendly, has high image quality, and integrates remote diagnostics, making it suitable for use by healthcare professionals and pharmacists without specialized training.

The device is designed for both low-income countries and developed markets, aiming to shift DR diagnosis from specialist clinics to primary care, thereby improving patient flow and accessibility.

The  Project funded by European Innovation Council (EIC) is crucial for refining the device and aligning it with market needs and regulatory standards. The project addresses a large unmet healthcare need, with the potential not only to advance technology, but also to transform healthcare delivery and prevent blindness.

Oivi will use the project as a vital step to prepare the company’s business strategy,  mature the device for its diagnostic functionalities and to align it with end-user needs, regulatory standards and IP strategy. The project is expected to untap a large unmet need with the first application – DR screening and diagnosis.

The project represents a pioneering effort in healthcare innovation, with its mission to provide accessible and affordable retinal screening for diabetes patients for early retinopathy diagnosis. The significance of this project goes beyond its technological advancements; it lies in its potential to transform lives, prevent blindness, and enhance healthcare delivery.
